She made history when she crossed the finish line of the Golden Globe Race, as the first female sailor to win a solo Round the World Race. The down-to-earth South African thought she’d blown it for most of her sail up the Atlantic, unaware that she was still in the lead and that rival Abhilash Tony was in fact behind her.
